Dameon Lavail Armstrong was born August 16, 1974, in Los Angeles, CA, to Sharon Clayton and Ernest Loyd. He was an only child. Ever since Dameon was a child, he was a humble leader, helper, and protector. He was a hard-working student-athlete, easy to get along with, and focused on achieving his dreams. Dameon’s love, support, and guidance came directly from his family and his mother. He moved from Los Angeles to El Monte, where he met his life-long friends and the mother of his children, Letty, with whom he shares three children: Monique, Markeese, and Makayla Armstrong. He later met Grace, with whom he shares one child, Isaiah Armstrong. He loved and always supported his five grandchildren: Maci, Tahj L., Mila, Markeese ll, and Myles Armstrong.
Dameon became a member of Abundant Living Family Church in the early 2000s and attended services with his mother and his children. He always held on to his Christian faith, and whenever he faced problems, he remembered to rely on Jesus, who would never leave nor forsake him. He leaves his children with the best gift, eternal life in Christ. Dameon not only held on to his faith but held on to his love.
He should always be remembered as a diligent man who whole-heartedly loved his mother and children, graduated high school with full scholarships to play football, attended UEI college, and worked as an automotive technician. Some of the many things Dameon taught his children were to love one another despite their flaws, walk with God, respect their mother, be kind and humble, lead, not follow, and have the strength to accomplish things no matter what gets in their way. His older grandchildren will always remember him as their Papa. His family and friends will always remember him as “Big D”.
He loved family gatherings, his mother’s cooking, laughing, and catching up with friends. He loved birthdays when he received gifts and enjoyed cold brews with Tajin chili powder. He loved working on cars and taught his oldest daughter how to change her own spark plugs and wires, pull/research codes on a scanner, and taught the father of her children to change brakes and tires. Dameon would wake up early mornings and play music while he cleaned, cooked breakfast, and meditated. He enjoyed spending time with his mother by the simplest measure of just sitting in her room with her watching TV. He loved waiting until everyone went to sleep to go downstairs and play music videos and recite the lyrics on YouTube while he drank a whole pitcher of Kool-Aid in one night. He enjoyed spending time outdoors alone, reminiscing while looking into the sky. He loved going to the corner store for snacks, drinks, and fish bait to go fishing for hours at Spring Valley Lake around the corner from home. He enjoyed hearing Makayla laugh by showing her his dance moves. He loved watching Isaiah learn how to use a computer at four and stay up late at night playing video games. He enjoyed getting unexpected visits from Markeese, proud to see him grow into a good man and father. Dameon loved and adored his family.
Towards the end, Dameon’s mother walked the stairway to Heaven, where she awaited the day to see him again. He then moved to Mojave, CA, where he was welcomed by his stepsisters, Jamelia and Nekita Jenkins, with open arms. His children adore them for that. Shortly after, his children gathered to share their last moments with him at Tehachapi CA Hospital, where they prayed over his body and soul and made sure he knew he was not alone as he took his last breath.
Dameon Lavail Armstrong is now rejoicing with the Lord, our Savior Jesus Christ, his mother Sharon, and great aunt Eugenia. He will continue to remain in our hearts forever because of how persevering, compassionate, and humble he was. His smile, dance moves, and laughter will forever be missed. Although he will be physically absent from us now, his spirit will remain with us for generations. He was a leader who never backed down when things became difficult; he always showed up with a smile to offer you.
