Our History

Ingold Funeral Chapel Exterior Photo

Ingold started in Rialto in 1938 and moved to Fontana's northeast corner of Juniper and Upland in 1943. At the time both communities were more separated with the then much less population and lots of open spaces between. Both were heavily dependent on agriculture as citrus trees dominated the landscape. However, Fontana was also the site of Kaiser Steel, and WW2 was continuing to escalate. Kaiser as part of the war effort needed to heavily ramp up steel production to ship the steel to Oakland Ca where the wartime navy expanded its fleet immensely and those ships were being built in Oakland, also by Kaiser. Also, as part of the WW2 effort there were severely limiting gasoline rationing and so it also made sense with population growth fueled by the War effort and steel …to relocate Ingold to its current location. The building has greatly expanded in building size with three major additions to the building, (including a huge chapel and indoor reception area), countless remodel-refurbishing and the addition of a larger parking lot across the street from Ingold on the southeast corner of Juniper and Upland Blvd.

As the longest-serving funeral and cremation provider in Fontana, the firm continued under the Ingold and Swartz families for three generations (an Ingold daughter/granddaughter married Swartz.) In quarter 4 of 2013, the Ingold heritage was transferred/purchased by William Hawkins, the founder of the Angeleno Mortuaries Group of greater Metro Los Angeles, and the number of families served has grown substantially with the dedication of Jessica Rodriquez (Fontana native) and the Ingold staff…dedicated to providing personalized compassionate care as they “care for the dead while serving the living”.
